101 things in 1001 days
On Saturday 10th April 2010 I started the 101 things in 1001 days challenge.
Why that date? Because it means that I will complete the challenge on January 5th 2013 – my 42nd birthday. And given that 42 is the meaning of life, the universe, and everything, that seems quite fitting. It also gives me a couple of months to actually work out what I want to do!!
The List
Click the (more info) link after each task to find out why it is on the list, how I will judge that I’ve completed it and to read about my progress. Alternatively, visit the 101 in 1001 blog to read all the entries so far.

More about the 101 things in 1001 days Challenge:
The Mission
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Liking this idea!
I went to see the Northern Lights at Christmas. We saw a faint glow – like streetlamps in fog! Still I guess that’s one off your list for me. I can knit – would you like a lesson?
Kate x
I’d love a refresher lesson, thanks Kate! I have knitted in the past, Katie had a baby cardigan I made and I was two thirds through a matinee jacket for Dan. Lost my knitting bag though! I’m left handed though, which can cause problems …
I’m enjoying your quest Alison!
Anychance of some nice visual showing the percentage completed?! Being a visual kinda guy such an illustration would help me – reckon it would help you too!
Keep up the awesome work!
Also, slam dunk for PR if you are so minded!
If I find anything I’ll add something on there!!! Glad you’re enjoying it though
Getting quite hooked on your 101 so hope that if I can make a list of things to do myself that I will be just as hooked on that.
It’s definitely given me some things to focus on for the next couple of years! If you do start one (and feel free to nick any of my ideas, I nicked loads from other people!) let me know and I’ll follow your progress
this is a wonderful idea! good luck!
This is brilliant. I saw the Northern lights. Just by chance on a flight to America. I am about to start my own list as I think this is fab
Ooh keep me posted, I’d love to see what you put on there! Might also encourage me to get a few more of my tasks completed too … 6 months in, 8 done, only 93 to go!!
Loved your list Alison – have nicked ten things from it to put on my reserve list for my 40 before 40 list (in case any of my original ones end up being too impractical or expensive) but between you and Katie, I may well swap in some of yours instead of some of my original ones – they’re great! And the links on your ‘more info’ bits gave me lots of food for thought and showed me some great sites that I hadn’t come across before, so thank you!!!!
)
And good luck with yours!!
